About Health & Welfare Department

If you're looking for help to deal with a behavioral or mental health issue, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare can assist. You can find 'em located out in the city of Rexburg among other sites in Idaho. They’re bordered by the Teton River Trail and several parks. This department provides child and family services for adults and children. They also provide substance use services alongside primary care.

If you need support for substance use, they can connect you to the right treatment through their contracted providers. Depending on your needs, this could be inpatient or outpatient treatment. If I was a client, I would appreciate that I could go through this department to get an umbrella of support for all my health needs.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare offers a range of other services for folks who are in substance abuse recovery. First and foremost, I would access their navigation services. Through this program, you can get information and assistance about all kinds of community, welfare and health resources. These services can be great early intervention and prevention opportunities, too.

You may also want to get support through their mental health services. These are for clients of all ages including children and families who need mental health care. I appreciate that no one is denied access if they can’t pay. You can access a discounted sliding fee scale based on your income and family size.

Another great resource through this Idaho State department is the self-reliance benefits assistance program. You can get help applying for all kinds of government benefits like aid for the aged, blind, and disabled, SNAP, and temporary assistance for families in Idaho (TAFI).

It can feel overwhelming to have to navigate the healthcare system. I think it’s beneficial to go through this department for one-stop access to everything you might need as you move into the next chapter of your life.
