About Trillium Place — The Living Room
The Living Room is an addiction and mental health support service for adults. It's located in Peoria, Illinois, near John H. Gwynn Jr. Park. This is a walk in facility. The Living Room operates as a general outpatient program. However, it's not a traditional program. Instead, it provides drop in support and connects you with other programs for ongoing help as needed.
There is no cost to be seen here. The program receives funding through the Illinois Division of Mental Health. The Living Room has multiple locations across the state.
One of the biggest advantages of this program is that you don't need an appointment to be seen. You simply come in during operating hours and you can talk with someone about whatever is bothering you.
Linkage to other programs is only part of what they do, though. You can receive a mental health screening, which could be the first step in getting appropriate treatment and diagnosis.
I think it’s neat that their services and linkages extend beyond treatment. If you're having trouble securing food or housing, for example, the staff here can help you find the resources to get you in better standing. I really like this because achieving stability is an important factor in sustainable recovery. It's a powerful tool even if you aren't looking for long term support.
That's another unique aspect of The Living Room you might want to consider. Sometimes when we face crisis we aren't looking for long term care. Sometimes, a friendly and welcoming one on one is all we're looking for.
When you chat with one of the staff's recovery specialists, they'll help you plot you next steps in more way than one. In addition to referrals, they can work with you to set short and long term goals and address some of the problems you're facing now. It's a great service and I love that it's available to everyone regardless of where they are in recovery or even if they're in a program at all. With all the difficulties people sometimes face getting seen for health issues, it's encouraging to know programs like this remain accessible to everyone.
