About House of the Good Shepherd

House of the Good Shepherd is a residential treatment and child welfare organization serving children, adolescents, and families in Central New York.

Founded in 1872, the facility offers trauma-informed residential care, foster care services and on-site education for youth ages 6 to 21 facing serious emotional, social and behavioral challenges. House of the Good Shepherd has over 150 years of experience and supports more than 600 children and families annually.

Trauma and Emotional Disturbance Help for Children and Youth

House of the Good Shepherd specializes in residential mental health treatment for children and adolescents experiencing significant trauma and emotional disturbance. Their programs include around-the-clock psychiatric and medical services.

I've found this program has a residential treatment center and an intensive treatment program that follows the  Sanctuary Model. This model is a certified trauma-informed approach using the S.E.L.F. Framework to address Safety, Emotions, Loss and Future as core areas of healing.

On-Campus Education at Tilton School

House of the Good Shepherd operates Tilton School, an on-site educational program offering K through 12 instruction with NYSED curriculum and Regents exam preparation. The school integrates special education services and provides a consistent academic environment for youth in residential treatment, helping them maintain educational progress while receiving care.
