About Hopewell Therapeutic Community

Hopewell is a farm-based residential treatment program for adults with severe mental illnesses, including co-occurring substance use disorders. They’re located in a quiet, rural working farm in a secluded corner of Middlefield, Ohio, to harness the healing powers of nature. They treat the whole person and include clinical and therapeutic therapies.

Each client works with a clinical to make goals for independent living and discharge. There’s no single approach to treatment since each client is unique. Residents will participate in psychiatric evaluations, individual, family and group counseling, medication management, and wellness instruction.

They offer a variety of holistic therapies such as equine-assisted learning, art and music therapy, sandplay therapy, and more. Residents also get to join in community work like farm animal care, kitchen and housekeeping as well as grounds and garden work. They help residents work towards educational and vocational goals.

A typical day includes a hearty morning breakfast which could include eggs from their own chickens. Next, staff will lead structured and informal exercise programs while some residents practice with the Hopewell band. Part of the morning is spent on morning chores around the farm where you’ll learn new skills, build self-esteem and get ready for a job. The morning ends with a morning meeting followed by lunch.

The afternoons may be a mix of exercise time, therapy, educational groups, creative expression and more. Dinner typically includes vegetables and meat from their own farm and fresh baked goods. There is often an on-site excursion after dinner. Some residents choose to take a walk in the woods or have some recreational time.

Weekends are less structured and include opportunities to attend worship services and other offsite outings. Garden Creek and Mill Creek are nearby and can offer some recreational therapy.

Hopewell is a nonprofit, private-pay organization. Some insurance benefits may cover some of the cost. Hopewell offers a discounted daily fee for private pay customers. Thanks to donors, they are able to provide financial assistance to residents who require longer than average stays.

Amenities

Residential Setting

Residential drug rehab provides the comforts of home with the therapeutic support needed to successfully recover. Benefits of an inpatient program include increased safety, a higher success rate, and the time and distance given to focus on recovery. Residential drug rehabs are often the preferred method of treatment, as they can be tailored to meet specific needs, offer focused therapeutic care, and provide the necessary tools to sustain recovery.

Farm Setting

There are many pathways to recovery and some journeys take a more labor-intensive approach, by attending a farm-based drug rehab. Farm life has many parallels with recovery: it requires constant tending, nurturing, and creating the conditions necessary to thrive. The benefits of a farm program include learning new skills, building a recovery community, peer support, and contributing to a greater ecosystem.

Art Therapy

Art and music are mediums that connect with our feelings, making them a great recovery tool during addiction treatment. Studies show that combining art/music and drug rehab can have a greater therapeutic impact than drug rehab alone, as you’re able to access parts of your brain and body that you may not have access to during traditional talk therapy. Benefits of art/music therapy include lowering stress and anxiety, promoting healthy neurochemicals, and providing stress relief.

Addiction Treatment Programs

Adult Program

Tailored for men and women over the age of 18, each adult program in Ohio incorporates multiple therapeutic methods to treat addiction. Various levels of care are offered, based on the needs of the individual.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Distorted, negative thought patterns can lead to negative behaviors such as substance abuse. Cognitive behavioral therapy in Ohio addresses these negative thoughts to help individuals make positive changes.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy is a neurobiological treatment modality used to address trauma disorders and related mental and behavioral health challenges. Short for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, EMDR is designed to help clients cope with distressing memories and emotions, including fear, sadness, and anger. EMDR may help clients in addiction recovery manage the psychological and emotional triggers that contribute to substance misuse and/or addiction relapse.

Sound & Music Therapy

Sound & Music Therapy are complementary treatment modalities frequently used in addiction recovery to support clients’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing through the use of auditory stimuli, from nature sounds and Tibetan singing bowls to drum circles and rhythmic melodies. The treatment is believed to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and may offer relief for those experiencing chronic pain, which can decrease clients’ risk of addiction relapse.

Men's Rehab

All levels of care are available at men’s rehab in Ohio. Men who are struggling with addiction can choose detox, inpatient, or outpatient programs, all designed for men.

Women's Rehab

Often, women suffer from both substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental health disorder. Women’s rehab in Ohio can treat both, which is called dual diagnosis treatment.

Animal & Equine Therapy

Animal & equine therapy are evidence-based complementary therapies drawing on the emotional, psychological, and physiological benefits of regular contact with animals. Addiction recovery programs may incorporate the care of therapy dogs, cats, horses, and other animals into their treatment model to support clients’ development of recovery-focused life skills, including personal responsibility, time management, and empathy. Contact with therapy animals may reduce stress, enhance mood, decrease depression and anxiety, and increase clients’ self-esteem and sense of wellbeing.

Levels of Care

Dual Diagnosis & Mental Health

If you’re struggling with both mental illness and addiction at the same time, dual diagnosis treatment in Ohio is ideal. This treatment provides an integrated approach to treat both disorders effectively.
