About Hope Center Ministries Mens Center
Wichita Falls, Texas is right on the border with Oklahoma, only two hours away from Dallas and Fort Worth. It’s home to the Sheppard Air Force Base and to Hope Center Ministries’ Men’s Center. The center delivers Christian based residential discipleship to help men overcome substance use disorder.
The program has a flat fee for one year and it also includes work therapy. Hope Center Ministries uses lay counselors who are not licensed therapists, as this is a discipleship program and not a clinical treatment center. I think it’s excellent that if you cannot afford the fee, they can work to find donors to cover some or all of the cost for you.
A Three Stage Discipleship Program
The discipleship program is divided into three parts. During the first phase, residents get into the routine of individual and group lay counseling, Bible study and devotions, chores and recreation. You also attend church and church related small groups. This part of the program lasts four weeks.
The second phase is the bulk of the program and lasts 40 weeks. Hope Center connects residents with a 40 hour per week vocational training and work therapy arrangement designed to teach work ethic and employable skills. You also continue the activities you started in the first phase.
The final eight week phase increases the freedom and privileges of the residents, allowing them to use a personal phone and personal vehicle. They also learn financial literacy and prepare for gainful employment outside the program.
Family Involvement at Hope Center Ministries
I noticed that family involvement is also a big part of the program. There are family support nights and classes as well as opportunities to visit their loved one in the program. They can also attend Celebrate Recovery support group meetings to find additional resources and relationships that can help.
