About Home With a Heart
Home with a Heart is a nonprofit residential drug and alcohol rehab facility for men. It is located in Liberty, South Carolina and provides a home like residence with a Christian foundation to help recovery. This program is completely free for its residents and is funded through the support of local churches, community members and their thrift store sales. They have four locations of thrift stores that support this program.
The residential program runs for eight weeks and combines the teachings of the Holy Bible with the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. This program aims to help men become productive members of their churches, communities and, most importantly, homes.
While this program comes without a cost, there are specific guidelines that you have to obey in order to be part of the program. First of all, you have to already be detoxed and willing to participate in all activities. You'll be responsible for some light duty tasks like cooking, cleaning and lawn care. You must keep your room clean and tidy and have good personal hygiene as well as get along with others without fighting or having a bad attitude.
During your stay, you will be allowed to have brief 10 minute conversations with family members as well as a weekly visitation. You are not permitted to leave the property without a staff member. While some of these rules may seem overly strict to some people, I can see the benefit of the structure and accountability.
Home with a Heart puts on lots of social events for anyone to attend such as a fish fry and gospel singing. These events are free but donations are appreciated.
When you have finished the program, there is a graduation service the on Saturday evening of your final week. Though the recovery journey will continue, Home with a Heart will have given you a great start.
