About The Hector Reyes House
The Hector Reyes House in Worcester, Massachusetts, is a residential substance use treatment facility specifically for up to 25 Latino men. Clients will have access to in house medical treatment and evidence based therapeutic approaches. The nondescript facility strives to alleviate a shortage of treatment available for Latinos and reduce the odds of relapse.
In the first month of treatment, staff members will help clients with establishing a daily routine. The facility will focus on teaching you skills that enhance your ability to cope with the temptation of using substances. I also like that this phase of treatment focuses heavily on job training skills and preparing clients for life after treatment.
The next phase of treatment will allow clients to leave the house for outside activities. You’ll be encouraged to establish social networks with people who don’t use drugs or alcohol. The purpose of this is to help you develop new non drug related social and recreational activities. You’ll also need to start actively pursuing employment. You’ll begin to establish a balanced lifestyle and get closer to living independently.
The graduation phase of treatment in the fourth to sixth months will be your final preparation to begin an independent life. Staff members will use the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s evidence based approach to teach you how to identify and correct behaviors that are problematic to your recovery.
Motivational interviewing will also be used to help address any resistance or denial to changing your behavior. Other services provided that I think will be helpful to clients are educational programs for literacy and GED completion and English as a Second Language classes.
The town of Worcester has lots of fun activities to do, such as visiting the Worcester Art Museum or checking out the EcoTarium. Crompton Park is just a few blocks away. The town is also just an hour away from the city of Boston, where you can enjoy walking around the Public Garden or Boston Common.
