About Heartland Counseling Services South Sioux City
Based in South Sioux City, Nebraska Heartland Counseling Services provides outpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling and treatment services to clients of all ages, including couples and families. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay. Sliding scale and discounted fees are available to those eligible based on family size and income.
This center seeks to support its local community by both raising awareness of mental illness and substance abuse issues, and by educating, advocating, and providing care for those in need.
They provide educational sessions covering both addiction and mental health issues, as well as community service programs, crisis response, and prevention services, as well as consultation for community organizations. Individual, group, family, and couples counseling is available to help individuals tackle their addiction or dual-diagnosis mental and behavioral health issues. This is done using methods like trauma-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, adoption, art therapy, parent-child interactive therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and motivational interviewing.
Clients will of course undergo evaluations before beginning their treatment. Sessions may then take place either on-site, or in school depending on the client’s age and circumstances.
The center’s community support program also provides wraparound services to adult residents of Nebraska aged 19 and older. This free program is recommended for individuals struggling with severe and persistent mental health or substance abuse issues. It features socialization opportunities, life skills education for tasks like cooking and cleaning, as well as support developing coping skills that may benefit clients’ health and wellness. Medication management, case management, as well as transport to and from appointments is also included. For those who may need it, housing resources, food stamps, as well as medical and nutritional assistance and other social services can be provided.
