Hazel D. Plant Women’s Treatment Facility

Hazel D. Plant Women’s Treatment Facility is located in New Castle, Delaware. It’s a treatment center for women that provides a Road to Recovery or R2R program, which is help for substance abuse and has a work release component for those in prison. They opened in 2005.

Community Reentry

This treatment center is dedicated to the successful reentry of female offenders into the community. They work with them to battle substance abuse problems, among other issues, to help them get ready for and get back to daily life. They want to positively impact inmates to change their lifestyle patterns and behaviors when they’re released. You can be assigned to food service, groundskeeping, or janitorial duties.

They use a therapeutic community model and strive to use industry best practices at all times. One thing I find unique about this treatment center is that they employ classified prisoners at an established wage structure.

Key Features & Levels of Care

The Department of Corrections or DOC determines if you’re eligible for the R2R program after an assessment, drug screen and a multidisciplinary clinical review. They use the Texas Christian University comprehensive assessment tool, and each person receives her own individual plan and program to work with. I believe they use this tool in several states around the country.

You will be placed in one of three track programs depending on the level of care you need. Your length of stay can be anywhere from 4-6 months, 6-9 months, or 9-12 months, depending on which track program you’re in.
