About Guiding Light Mission
Guiding Light in Grand Rapids, Michigan is a donor funded addiction recovery center based on Christian values. They help men and women recover from substance abuse through responsibility, hard work and a relationship with God. Thanks to generous donations, treatment is available at no cost to clients.
Their intensive programs include four to six months of residential treatment for those who are struggling with addiction or homelessness. Clients get spiritual direction, life coaching, therapy, resources and support groups to help them move forward. There are separate residences for men and another one for women.
The four aspects this program focuses on are physical wellness, coaching and therapy, education and practice and spiritual engagement. As a client, you'll have access to trained life coaches and certified therapists as well as experienced spiritual directors. Team building retreats and silent spiritual retreats are wonderful ways to have life changing experiences.
You'll get exercise classes led by instructors, access to the YMCA, transportation and laundry facilities and employment readiness training. To be eligible for this program, your blood alcohol content must be zero and you can't test positive for opiates or benzodiazepines. You'll also need to be physically able to work and exercise and must not have committed a violent felony in the past three years. Ideally, legal issues should be resolved before you come but staff can discuss pending legal issues with you.
When you're ready to move on, Guiding Light has transitional housing to help women re-enter society. These two beautiful transitional homes in the Grand Rapids area give you access to a safe living space and community and peer support. These homes are comfortable and well maintained and named after two long-time volunteers. Ruth's House and Esther's House help women as they transition to a life of recovery.
