About Goochland Powhatan Community Services
Goochland Powhatan Community Services (GPCS), located in Goochland County, Virginia provides substance use and mental health services to citizens of Goochland and Powhatan Counties. Their goal is to enhance your quality of life through innovative services. I like the dual approach they take in addressing both prevention and crisis intervention through their programs.
Impactful Services in Central Virginia
GPCS provides therapy and medication management for substance use disorder and mental health challenges. If your substance usage is more intensive, you may need a referral for services at a more comprehensive rehab. Pregnant or parenting women using substances and individuals using opiates receive priority in accessing services.
I appreciate that GPCS offers a wide range of services that go beyond just substance use. Some of these services include medication disposal, mental health case management and mental health first aid and workshops. They also have free cable locks for guns and locking medication boxes as well as parent education. I noticed their Revive program too which is where you can learn how to recognize an overdose and administer naloxone.
Paying for Your Treatment
GPCS accepts Medicare and Medicaid as well as private and state insurance plans. They receive SAMHSA funding/block grants too. They also accept self payment.

Treatment helps them make choices during this stage of life that lead to healthy, long-term recovery.Adult Program
An adult program in Virginia is often the ideal solution for individuals struggling with substance use. Care is available at different intensity levels, based on individual situations, and a variety of treatment methods are used, to meet each person’s unique needs.Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
In an addiction treatment setting, cognitive behavioral therapy in Virginia is helpful because it targets triggers and helps individuals develop healthy coping skills. It focuses on changing thoughts and related behaviors. This is ideal for relapse prevention.EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy is a neurobiological treatment modality used to address trauma disorders and related mental and behavioral health challenges. Short for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, EMDR is designed to help clients cope with distressing memories and emotions, including fear, sadness, and anger.
