About George Hawkins Treatment Center
The Cheyenne and Arapaho Substance Abuse Program, also referred to as the George Hawkins Memorial Treatment Center is a 90-day residential treatment program for Native American men and women over 18 years. Located on North Airport Road in Clinton, Oklahoma, this 16-bed residential facility primarily serves enrolled members of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes.
They’re just over two miles northwest of the McLain Rogers Park Historic Gates, the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum and the Historic Downtown Clinton Route 66 Corridor. This blend of historic landmarks and natural attractions provides an excellent backdrop for sober reflection and outdoor recreation that supports long-term healing.
The facility boasts a modern, highly structured therapeutic environment that promotes healthy lifestyle choices with round-the-clock support and monitoring by skilled nurses. What stands out to me is the strong communal atmosphere that encourages connection and shared healing. This fosters a sense of belonging that makes the healing journey less lonely.
Structured Treatment Services

This spans substance use assessment and personalized care planning alongside psychoeducation and therapeutic support that helps you develop effective strategies for long-term sobriety.
You’ll also benefit from life skills training that equips you with skills such as budgeting, daily living tasks and home maintenance. Additional topics you’ll learn about include healthy relationship building, job searching and social communication to support independent living. The program incorporates 12-step meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and you’re encouraged to actively attend meetings to build a robust sober support network.
Culturally Competent Care
Traditional and culturally informed Native American practices such as White Bison, Red Road to Wellbriety and sweat lodges are integrated into the curriculum. The idea is to reconnect you with your cultural roots and traditional pathways to wellness that are spiritually grounded.
These promote the wellbeing of the mind, body and spirit. You’ll be connected to community resources to address needs like permanent housing and stable employment.
