About Friends of Youth
Friends of Youth Issaquah is a nonprofit organization providing services for children, families, and young adults in Washington. The counseling facility is on Front Street North in Issaquah. Counselors treat substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders in individuals ages 4-24. The organization provides supportive services as well, including parent education, drop out prevention, home visits and academic support. I find the organization unique in targeting young adults from 18-24 for many of its assistance programs.
The organization accepts many types of commercial insurance, Apple Health and Medicaid. You may be eligible for reduced fee services on a sliding scale if you’re uninsured.
Affordable Housing Assistance
One of the services I noticed that may be helpful to many young adults is their affordable housing assistance program. The organization administers Iva Place in Kirkland - an energy efficient, green apartment complex. Housing is available for those ages 18-24 earning at or below 50%, 35%, and 30% of the median income in the area. Young adults lease a bedroom within a furnished, shared two bedroom apartment.
Employment and Education Services
I thought the employment and education services looked especially helpful for young adults. To be eligible, you must be in King County and experiencing homelessness. Eligible individuals receive comprehensive job readiness skills and employment services. Additionally, they provide continued education support for those in pursuit of vocational training, a GED or a college degree.
Additional Supportive Services for Youth in Washington
Transitional living, supportive housing and shelters can all be accessed through this organization. They have residential foster care for refugee men 16-20 that helps with employment, counseling and legal services. They offer home visits for pregnant women and parenting families with children under the age of six. Home visits include health and developmental screenings, parenting support and basic supplies.
