About Fresh Start
Located in Duluth, just three blocks away from the waterfront of Lake Superior, is the women’s residential recovery facility, Fresh Start Duluth. This is a residential house that provides a safe and supportive place for women in Minnesota to live as they move through recovery from a drug, alcohol, or substance use struggle.
This home is in an inviting, quiet, residential community. While there are some single bedrooms available, most are shared with two women in a room. Generally, up to 10 women call this recovery house home.
As a single family home, you can expect to find private front and backyards where you can enjoy your living space. Inside, there are cozy bedrooms, and while most rooms are shared, you’ll still have a sense of privacy including designated places for you to store your belongings. Amenities offered here include a craft room, an exercise room, and multi purpose space.
Many women who have lived here say that there’s a pretty defined schedule of the home and that it’s pretty well structured. Still, you’ll have the freedom to take control over your own life, which is essentially the purpose of sober living as you’ll have the support needed when you encounter obstacles or triggers.
Included in the schedule here are community times, designated daily chores you'll have to keep up with, and individualized counseling sessions to continue through your recovery plan. Additionally, you'll also participate in 12 Step recovery programs like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. Endion Park isn’t too far away if you feel the need to head out to some greenspace to unwind.
You are allowed to have your electronics on you while living here; however, during community times like dining and counseling, you’re encouraged to put your electronics away.
Overall, many women say that you'll get out of this program what you put into it. While the home itself provides a safe place for you to live, you'll be encouraged and empowered to take charge of your recovery.
