About North Central Mental Health
The Norwich House of North Central Mental Health Services (NCMHS) in Columbus, Ohio, is licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health. NCMHS is affiliated with the Franklin County ADAMH Board. I appreciate that NCMHS promotes residential treatment in the least restrictive setting possible. This setting allows clients to become more independent by practicing daily skills with assistance and observation.
Residents help prepare food, do housekeeping, and plan activities which helps them learn independence. Clients learn healthy social behaviors, personal behaviors, cleanliness, and safety. Upon discharge the client is linked to needed community resources.
The Norwich House Residential
The Norwich House is a room and board living facility for adult clients who have ongoing severe mental health issues, substance abuse issues, or both. Clients care for themselves with assistance and oversight.
Treatment includes group sessions where clients learn personal growth and coping skills. Assistance includes educational activities, training for daily activities, and monitoring clients while taking medication. Clients do get to participate in social and recreational activities.
Referrals for Alternative Treatments
If you do not need residential assistance then NCMHS offers other programs. Sometimes clients need a few hours of therapy per week or may look for therapy in a community setting. Recovery Support Services offer group therapies, crisis intervention, and referrals to community resources.
Medical and psychiatric services treat substance use, mental illness, and any physical impacts from substance use. Medications may be prescribed for you if they are deemed necessary for your recovery.
I like that Intensive Recovery Services are provided in the community by specialized teams. These services assist the client in successfully integrating into the community. There is also a Dual Diagnosis Community Team for those who have a co-occurring disorder.

Hiking is a great way to relieve stress, get perspective, navigate challenges, connect with nature, and improve your health - all essential components of sustaining long-term recovery. Studies also show that the body releases endorphins during physical activities like hiking. These endorphins improve mood and act as a natural pain reliever.
