About Family Services and Childrens Aid Society
Family Services and Children Aid Society (FSCAS) is an organization dedicated to supporting families through several programs, including substance abuse and mental health care. They have an office in Oil City, Pennsylvania, but serve Venango County. It’s near the banks of the Allegheny River and they date back to 1887.
What I find so appealing about FSCAS's substance abuse program is its in-home recovery option. It's a family therapy program available in your home and other community settings outside the office. I believe programs like these are valuable because they increase accessibility for everyone AND focus on the family unit's wellbeing.
Certified Recovery Specialists on Your Side
You can expect professional and comprehensive help during treatment sessions, but what do you do when you need assistance outside of counseling? FSCAS can connect you with a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) to help you bridge that gap.
CRS is a form of peer support. While not professional providers, they can act as mentors and advocates, and ultimately as guides in recovery. The job of the CRS is to encourage your continued recovery by helping you get resources to increase sobriety and self improvement. They can also give referrals to treatment services, a function that certainly shouldn't be overlooked.
Adult clients can receive CRS for free if they’re eligible for Medical Assistance.
Managing the Everyday
I want to draw attention to the Home and Community Services Program because I believe it naturally complements addiction treatment. This educational program is designed to enhance your independent living skills so you and your family can live happily at home with minimal assistance. It covers such subjects as budgeting and personal care and meeting everyday responsibilities like grocery shopping.
What's great about this program is it can be personalized to meet your needs, so you and the care team can target specific areas where you feel you're lacking.
