Recovery for Women and Children

A cool feature of Family House NOW is that they serve mothers and their children. That is, the children can live onsite with their moms in recovery. This can contribute to the mother’s healing process by motivating her to stay focused and engaged in recovery. It offers a sense of purpose and responsibility, reminding her of the importance of lasting sobriety not only for her wellbeing, but for her kids.

The arrangement also allows for better bonding opportunities. This can strengthen the parent-child relationship that may have been strained by substance use. It ensures that parenting skills and family dynamics are addressed. This can be just as crucial in sustaining a lasting recovery. Childcare services may be provided for infants, while older children attend school as the mom navigates recovery.

The program even includes a prevention and intervention component for the children. This approach encourages a supportive, nurturing environment that fosters healing for the entire family unit.

The facility is conveniently located on North 48th Street, a diverse and vibrant neighborhood in West Philadelphia. The facility is easy to access via US-1, US-3 and PA-611 corridors. Several SEPTA bus routes run through the area. You’ll have a lot of flexibility regarding transportation when you have urgent needs offsite.

Long-term Trauma-focused Recovery

Family House NOW offers a safe space where healing can take place through 24 hours intensive and structured programming. You’ll benefit from the support of peers as well as staff who offer counseling and therapy groups to address underlying psychological issues and develop coping skills for relapse prevention.

Sessions may incorporate evidence-based practices like cognitive (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to promote positive change in behavior and break unhealthy habits like substance use. A noteworthy feature is its focus on addressing trauma. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and Seeking Safety may be employed by your therapist for this purpose. Emphasis is on fostering healing in a safe and conducive space.

The program also includes parenting and life skills training. You can pick up skills like effective communication, setting healthy boundaries, and managing stress. You may also learn how to build a routine that promotes personal and family wellbeing. The program may involve psychiatric evaluation and medication management to address mental illness and support those with co-occurring disorders.
