About Resources for Human Development NOVA 3

Resources for Human Development - Family House Norristown, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, is a long term live in addiction treatment facility for women and their children. They also welcome expecting moms who are ready to get off substances. This location was temporarily home to RHD’s Nova III, an addiction facility for medically fragile people. With Nova III moving into their permanent building, Family House reopened.

Family Healing in Southeastern Pennsylvania

What I love about this organization is that they keep families together so they can recover and heal while maintaining close family bonds. The moms are treated for their addictive behaviors with a combination of education and counseling. The children go through a prevention and intervention program to help them make healthy choices when they grow up. They’re also assessed for developmental delays or the effects of abuse and trauma.

Parental Support as Moms Recover

Another aspect I noticed is that each mom has a parental support person. Recovery can be physically and mentally taxing. Having someone to help with a crying baby or sassy toddler in a rough moment makes a big difference. Moms are given grace and space to learn effective parenting skills with lots of support and encouragement.

Their recovery journey happens over time as the length of their sober periods increases. With the right environment and therapy, their mental health stabilizes and they become more resilient and ready to make it by themselves. In this environment, their children respond to being lovingly taken care of. The staff also ensure that their development growth is on track.
