About Family & Community Services

Family & Community Services is located in Kent, Ohio. They provide help for people of all ages with behavioral health issues and problems with substance use in an outpatient setting. They’ll accept most insurances and Medicaid for payment, and referrals are taken from courts, providers and self referrals.

Starting Out with Counseling

Their outpatient behavioral health programs serve people of all ages, even seniors. You can get a wide range of services for behavioral health here, like individual, group and couples counseling, and psychiatry.

Court Ordered Programs

I like the fact that they work with the court system here. They have a driver’s education program that’s a class for 18-21 year olds who were charged with Underage OVI and had a blood alcohol content below .08. This class is designed to teach you the effects of drugs and alcohol while driving and what they can do to the body and how they can create a chemical dependency.

They have a Think About Your Future Diversion program. It’s used as an alternative to regular sentencing for people 18-20 years old convicted of an alcohol related offense. Their goal is to help you make better choices concerning alcohol use.

They also have a unique program that I like, called BIC-60. It’s for first time offenders who were charged with possession and or possession of paraphernalia or cannabis use. I love how if you complete this program within 60 days, your charges will be dismissed and expunged.

Often, women suffer from both substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental health disorder. Women’s rehab in Ohio can treat both, which is called dual diagnosis treatment.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT)

If your addiction treatment includes rational emotive behavioral therapy in Ohio, the therapist will take on the role of educator and teacher. The therapists uses this model to empower individuals to identify and replace irrational beliefs. Sessions usually last for one hour and may continue for a few weeks or up to one year.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an integrative, community-based care strategy designed to address the needs of persons with severe and/or complex mental illness or behavioral disorders. ACT is typically provided by a multidisciplinary team of medical and mental health care providers, social workers, therapists, and other specialists, including addiction recovery professionals. These services are frequently provided in the home and community to clients in crisis, those who are clinically unstable, and those who are unable or unwilling to travel to a hospital or clinic for in-person treatment.
