The program is part of M Health Fairview. This is a statewide healthcare system with over 3,000 providers in 100+ specialties serving people of all ages across the region.

Specialized Programs for Teens with Dual Diagnoses

The adolescent treatment program accepts teens ages 12 to 19 with mental health and substance use concerns who do not require 24-hour observation. Individuals must meet the criteria set by the Minnesota Department of Human Services to qualify.

The Maplewood site is one of three locations offering the program in Minnesota. Clients practice coping skills, communication strategies, cognitive behavioral techniques, relapse prevention, and other personalized care tailored to their specific needs and challenges.

Three Pillars of Treatment and Support

There are three main components to treatment which are designed for teens who may benefit from a higher level of care but do not want to retreat from their home or school life. In the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), clients participate in individual, group, and family therapy and receive medication management from an on-site psychiatric provider.

Once clients have completed primary treatment then they move on to a step-down continuing care program to help them sustain the new behaviors and coping strategies they’ve learned.

Family involvement is the other piece of the puzzle. Loved ones participate in assessment and treatment and work with therapists to reconnect and heal strained relationships with their children.

Whole-Person Approach with an Emphasis on Access

Here, they don’t just treat symptoms. This outpatient treatment program emphasizes the whole person. Providers, social workers, and community health workers collaborate to address the client’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It’s a holistic approach aimed at long-term recovery.

The Adolescent Co-Occurring Disorders Outpatient Program is available to families with Medicaid, private insurance, military insurance, and those paying out of pocket. Being part of the M Health Fairview network gives teens access to specialized providers and system-wide support that smaller, independent centers may not provide.
