About Edge Hill Retreat Center

The Edgehill Recovery Center, also referred to affectionately as “The Hill” by some clients and staff, has provided a refuge for those seeking freedom from substance addiction since 1979. Located in Winchester, Virginia, their unique campus hosts both a non medical residential detox as well as a structured residential treatment program.

The philosophy guiding these programs is that the disease of addiction affects the sufferer’s mind, body, and spirit. I appreciate that they ensure that they give you a structured, safe environment where you find both freedom and inner strength.

A Structured Approach to Recovery

One of my favorite aspects of their approach is that their treatment program is designed to establish an abstinent lifestyle as quickly as possible. They achieve this by giving you a full schedule of therapeutic activities to participate in each day.

These include individual counseling and relapse prevention planning, counseling and participation in a 12 step program in groups, and even engagement in study groups and group entertainment.

Their schedule also gives you time off for personal reflection and requires each resident to help participate in cleaning and chores, which is another aspect I enjoy. By joining in chores and cleaning with the community, you not only grow closer with your peers, but you also enjoy a much deeper feeling of ownership over your residence and your recovery journey.

Connection to the Community

Edgehill has ties with the local recovery community and the broader community of Winchester. While staying at the Hill, you’re within a mile of the Shawnee Springs Preserve, Friendship Park, and the Jim Barnett Park, giving you wonderful places to explore and enjoy the scenery.

After you’ve gone through the program, they’ll connect you with mentors and friends who can help you implement what you learn in the residential program.
