About East MS State Hospital
East Mississippi State Hospital operates the Bradley A. Sanders Addiction Center (BASAC) a court mandated substance use disorder treatment program in Meridian, Mississippi. BASAC provides residential inpatient care for adult men who are committed through Chancery Court across a 31 county service area.
The program combines the Matrix Model with evidence based therapies and 12 step principles in addition to peer support which I have found helps clients build early recovery skills and prepare for community reintegration.
Inpatient Commitment Through Chancery Court
I discovered the men enter BASAC through a Chancery Court commitment after a formal determination that inpatient substance use treatment is needed. The 50 bed residential program offers 24 hour RN nursing care and group and client therapy in addition to psychoeducation and recreational activities.
Treatment is grounded in the Matrix Model and includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, relapse prevention planning, and 12-step facilitation through AA and NA meetings.
Peer support specialists guide clients through early recovery and discharge planning and verify each man leaves with local AA/NA meeting schedules and scheduled follow up appointments at a community mental health center.
Addition Treatment Information

- Capacity and staffing: 50 beds with 24 hour RN nursing care and peer support specialists
