About Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center

Founded in 1947, Charleston Dorchester Community Mental Health Center (CDCMHC) has two locations. One’s located in the charming and historic city of Charleston, South Carolina, and the other sits in the riverside town of Summerville, within Dorchester County.

CDCMHC offers outpatient therapy for a variety of ages. They give counseling to both individuals and groups or families.

Tri-County Crisis Stabilization

CDCMHC wants to provide a comfortable space for urgent psychiatric needs. Their Tri County Crisis Stabilization provides an alternative for patients in Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties who would otherwise be in hospital emergency departments or even jail. In case of suicidal thoughts, psychosis, or bipolar disorder, I would want my loved ones in a comfortable and calming space where they could stabalize and get help.

Mental Health Court and Jail Services

There’s a growing number of people with Axis I disorders being incarcerated and reincarcerated. I like how CDCMHC has a mental health court in place to address this problem and divert people from unnecessary jail time. During court, patients receive counseling, vocational, and mediation services.
