About Crouse Hospital

Crouse Hospital is a Syracuse-based general hospital whose Addiction Treatment Services program provides hospital-based withdrawal management and addiction consult services at its Irving Avenue campus.

It serves adults age 18 and older with dedicated tracks for pregnant and postpartum women, older adults, young adults, professionals and patients with co-occurring disorders.

Crouse offers a connected continuum designed to meet people wherever they enter care.

Hospital-Based Alcohol Withdrawal Management

I noticed that Crouse provides medically supervised alcohol withdrawal management with evaluations available through the Emergency Department 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Its Addiction Consult Services also assess hospitalized patients for substance use disorders, withdrawal needs, medications and referrals.

Withdrawal care includes individual therapy, discharge planning and referrals for ongoing treatment, and clinically appropriate patients may receive facilitated transfers to inpatient substance use disorder care.

This hospital-based approach allows treatment needs to be identified during admissions for other medical conditions.

Opioid Treatment and a Connected Recovery Continuum

As an opioid treatment provider I find that Crouse offers all three medications for opioid use disorder including methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone.

The broader system includes outpatient treatment, day treatment and a 40-bed residential rehabilitation program, along with counseling, trauma-focused care, DBT skills and family services.
