About Crossroads Amethyst House

Amethyst House was a program operated by Crossroads that provided residential addiction treatment services for pregnant women and women with children in New Haven, Connecticut. It housed up to 20 women and, at the time, was the largest program at the facility. It has since closed.

Focusing on the Needs of Women

Similar to its women’s program, I admire that the facility likely focused on issues that directly affected pregnant women with substance use disorder. Some of the issues that could have been addressed in group counseling sessions include parenting, domestic violence and boundary setting. Group sessions with other pregnant or parenting women also provided a safe environment to share personal experiences and receive relevant support and encouragement.

Evidence-based therapeutic approaches that counselors may have used at this facility are cognitive (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). These approaches teach individuals how to regulate their emotions and manage their negative thoughts to be better able to achieve recovery from addiction.

Convenient Care Services Near Downtown New Haven

One other thing I liked about this facility is that it was located just a few steps away from New Haven, Connecticut. Whenever clients had a chance to spend time outside of the facility, they could enjoy activities such as walking around New Haven Green with their children or visiting Old Haven Courtyard or visiting Yale Peabody Museum.

Even though they’re closed, you can find other care and services at nearby centers.
