About Crossroads
Located in Scarborough, Maine, the Crossroads’ partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for women provide clients with treatment for substance use disorders. The Crossroads programs are provided by the Greater Portland Counseling Center. In addition to treating substance use disorder, you can also receive treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders and eating disorders.
Gender Responsive Outpatient Treatment
I like that Crossroads understands that men and women don’t necessarily face the same challenges related to addiction. Women are able to focus on the addiction related issues that are most prevalent to their lives. The facility will focus on topics such as co occurring mental health issues, family education, and coping skills. In the intensive outpatient program, you’ll work with Master’s level licensed clinicians in group sessions three to five days a week for three hours a day.
Women’s only group sessions allow clients to be more open and honest about their experiences in a way that they wouldn’t be able to in a mixed gender group. The different group sessions you may participate in include social support, early recovery, family education, and relapse prevention groups. Other types of therapy that will also be available to you are individual, couples, and family therapy.
Driver Education to Restore Driving Privileges
One other program that stood out to me that Crossroads offers is the Driver Education and Evaluation Programs. It’s available to clients who have been incarcerated for operating under the influence. In this program, you’ll receive education about the risks of substance use and impaired driving. The staff will also evaluate to determine if you have a substance use disorder, and if it’s determined that an individual has one, Crossroads will provide counseling and treatment.
Fun Activities in Portland
The great thing about this location is it’s only a few minutes away from Portland, Maine. On a day after one of your treatment sessions, you can spend time checking out the Portland Museum of Art or enjoy a nice walk around Bug Light Park.
