About CREC John J Allison Jr Polaris Center
The CREC John J. Allison Jr. Polaris Center is located in East Hartford, Connecticut. This is an organization that provides services to children in grades K through 12. If your child is struggling with their behavior, has issues with emotional regulation, or is at risk for substance use struggles, there are services offered through this organization that can help.
At Risk and Addiction Support
While support is offered through their academic curriculum, there are services that I find to be incredibly helpful in connecting you to the individualized treatment your child needs. For example, this organization partners with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Through this partnership, your child will get access to case management services where they'll be supported as they work through at-risk behaviors including fully developed addiction struggles they might be facing.
Coordinated Care for Children and Their Families
In the past, this organization provided outpatient and school based addiction and mental health services. However, they no longer provide care through this route. Today, these services are provided through the partner agency, Community Health Services. This has been helpful for children and families because the process of receiving care has become more streamlined, intentional and individualized.
Some of the ways you'll find care through the Community Health Services partnership is their 24/7 crisis support, counseling services and psychiatric evaluations that can help diagnose a co-occurring disorder.
I also find it helpful that the services are extended to adults in a child's life as well. For example if a child's life has been impacted because of their grown up’s substance use struggles, that adult can get connected to more robust services like medication assisted treatment (MAT) and other medication management services.
