About Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coastal Bend
The Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coastal Bend is a private nonprofit organization serving several counties around Corpus Christi, Texas. They offer prevention, outpatient treatment, and recovery support services for people with substance use disorders.
You can access specialized treatment services for pregnant and postpartum women, and veterans at this location. Recovery resources can be found through adult and youth aftercare treatment groups.
There are separate intensive outpatient programs for adults and adolescents. Both programs include group and individual therapy sessions, case management, and family counseling. These group sessions happen in the evenings and include a family component. The youth treatment program includes kids aged 13 through 17. I appreciate that they accept most insurance plans and also use a sliding scale and state funds if you need assistance.
Once you finish a treatment program you’ll also be able to attend aftercare, which is held in individual and group therapy sessions. Free group activities and social events are also a part of this ongoing care. For youth in or seeking recovery aged 13 through 21, the youth aftercare groups organize movie nights and game nights.
It’s great to see they also address prevention by presenting on topics like underage drinking and tobacco use at community events, camps, and schools. I love the way they incorporate the community like hosting their Safe and Sober Week every year during the first week of December.
Clients of these services mention feeling grateful and comfortable. A former client who is also a veteran said the Council’s services are better than the VA. A few people mentioned that they didn’t have the best interaction with staff over the phone, though.
