About The University of Kansas Health System Marillac Campus

Every year, the University of Kansas Health System helps thousands of patients of all ages work through serious physical and mental health issues of all kinds. At their Marillac Campus in Overland Park, Kansas, you’ll find their specialized pediatric mental and behavioral health unit.

The services offered here include outpatient behavioral health counseling and coaching, as well as pediatric psychiatry offered at both the inpatient and outpatient levels of care.

Compassionate Care for Those With Urgent Needs

When a child or teenager is admitted for inpatient care, a pediatric physician, assisted by other staff as needed, will conduct a comprehensive medical and psychiatric evaluation to determine the best way to serve the child’s needs. These assessments include a substance use assessment.

After this first stage, they can provide cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and other interventions to help address any present mental or behavioral health concerns. They may also work with the family to help ensure that each patient eventually returns to an environment that meets their mental health and developmental needs.

Helping Children Feel Heard

One of their most special services, to my mind, is that through expressive therapy, they provide each child with many avenues of self expression. Using media such as drama, art, music, and play therapy, they can help learn more about what each child needs and help to teach valuable skills and coping mechanisms.
