About Clarendon County Health Department
The South Carolina Department of Public Health operates several public health clinics throughout the state. The Clarendon County Health Clinic is located in Manning, South Carolina. They offer immunizations, testing for HIV and Hep C, and free overdose prevention kits.
The clinic accepts Medicaid and other insurance plans. Every few months, the state designates a free testing day at most local health clinics, so that’s something to keep an eye out for. They may be open on weekends or have occasional extended hours.
Testing and Free Overdose Prevention Kits
Opioid use is a serious problem in most states, including South Carolina. I like that the health clinics are addressing that by handing out free overdose prevention kits. The kits include naloxone (Narcan) nasal spray, test strips for fentanyl and xylazine, and instructions. Instructions are also available in Spanish.
The clinic also provides testing for HIV, Hep C and sexually transmitted infections. These tests include syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and more. They can also give you Doxy PEP (doxycycline) to prevent bacterial infections for potential exposures. You take the medication within 24 hours of a sexual encounter if you can, and no more than 72 hours afterward.
Other Services Available at the Clarendon County Clinic
I saw some medical services available here as well as access to WIC benefits. The clinic provides access to birth control and can offer a variety of immunizations for children and adults, including flu, pneumonia and tetanus/whooping cough.
Those who qualify for their Women, Infants and Children services can find resources at the Clarendon County Clinic. The staff can connect women and children to food, health information and health screenings.
