About Chugachmiut
Chugachmiut Behavioral Health is headquartered on Bragaw Street, east of Midtown between Russian Jack Springs Park and Tikishla Park in Anchorage, Alaska. It is a non-profit agency that offers counseling services, substance abuse treatment and prevention services, as well as case management services to individuals, families, and couples in the Chugach regions of Kenai Peninsula and Prince William Sound.
Seven Native tribes located in small villages and remote, rural sites receive twice-monthly visits from staff members of the Anchorage facility. The staff treats both mental health and substance abuse issues, combining traditional Native healing practices with western psychological therapies. They also offer community-wide or school-based presentations, meet with Elders in their homes or at gatherings, deal with emergencies, and visit schools to meet with kids who have behavioral health issues.
Chugachmiut’s Behavioral Health Department is CARF Certified.
