About Family Recovery Center Lake Bluff

Family Recovery Center (FRC) is located in Saint Charles, Illinois. In response to rising mental health difficulties in young people, FRC opened in 2009 to serve the Chicagoland area. They became a place where families could bring their children, a place to turn to when feeling uncertainty. FRC provides treatment for long-term recovery in these situations.

Since its founding, FRC has evolved to offer their best possible care, including a wider reach with two additional locations.

Working with Your School and Personal Schedule

One thing that I think is special about FRC is how they understand and plan for different groups and ages. For example, while their intensive outpatient program offers therapy every weekday, Tuesday and Friday evenings are specifically and only for adolescents. This ensures that children are able to keep regular school schedules during their 10-12 week care.

With focus on adolescents and families, FRC offers therapy in multiple settings including individual, family, and couple counseling. This is an area for digging into challenges, strengthening relationships, and settling conflict.

Personal Growth and Self-control Through Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

FRC specializes in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), with a DBT skills group aimed at adolescents 12-18 years old. I see how this kind of group helps substance abuse recovery as well as adult life preparedness through their practice on subjects such as mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

This program includes both instruction and process time, which allows them to practice these skills in real-life situations, leading to better quality of life and stronger communication with themselves and others. Each session lasts 30 minutes and can be one-on-one with your therapist.

Studies show that combining art/music and drug rehab can have a greater therapeutic impact than drug rehab alone, as you’re able to access parts of your brain and body that you may not have access to during traditional talk therapy. Benefits of art/music therapy include lowering stress and anxiety, promoting healthy neurochemicals, and providing stress relief.
