About Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center

Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center offers substance use treatment for service members and eligible beneficiaries at Fort Hood (Fort Cavazos), Texas. The program provides outpatient substance use counseling through an integrated medical and behavioral health model. The center includes assessment, treatment and aftercare services. The team is committed to delivering care aligned with national best practices while supporting military readiness and sustained recovery.

Options for Service Members

The facility specializes in outpatient substance use disorder treatment specifically for the military community. I noticed their program combines medical evaluation with behavioral health counseling to determine the most appropriate level of care for each individual.

Treatment includes weekly group sessions and individual counseling that emphasizes abstinence throughout the recovery process. When clinically indicated, the staff provides referrals to higher levels of care, including detox, residential treatment, medication management and the Addiction Medicine Intensive Outpatient Program.

Walk In Services Available

Since the focus is on military members, I found it offers several routes to access care. They offer self-referral, commander identification, and medical identification during routine or emergency visits. This structure allows service members to receive support through the pathway that best fits their situation.

The center operates on-post at Fort Hood, Texas  with walk-in hours available Monday through Friday. Non-DoD ID holders may need to obtain visitor access through the Marvin Leath Visitors Welcome Center.

The program is part of the TRICARE military health system for eligible service members and beneficiaries.
