About Burrell Behavioral Health

Burrell Behavioral Health in Harrison, Arkansas offered school based services and mental health programs for youth. They worked with the school districts of Harrison, Valley Springs, Omaha, Jasper and other school districts to provide mental health services, but unfortunately they are now closed.

School based services provided students with quick access to care without leaving their academic setting. Clinicians within the school were able to provide therapy to youth face to face in an individual manner or in a group session. See found that some of the smaller districts are using Burrell’s telehealth services based out of Springfield but they noted it isn’t the same as face to face counseling.

Youth Support Program for Substance Use

A student who was assessed as having a substance issue could have been referred to the youth community support program here. This program provided treatment for anxiety, depression, substance use, and suicide risk after a psychosocial evaluation and assessment. Treatment is administered in the youth’s familiar community settings. Youth could be stabilized by community support specialists in the event of a crisis.

Children, youth, and their families could participate in group sessions. Groups offered education about substance use, mental health, and parenting. Also part of group sessions was skill building and support and encouragement from other families which we think is a strength this program had.

Referral to Residential and Outpatient

This particular location was an outpatient facility but youth with serious substance use and addiction issues could be referred to the Cherry Street Youth Center in Springfield. The center offers all forms of treatment from residential services to after school outpatient treatments. Youth typically spend eight weeks in residential treatment at no cost. The center raised money and created enjoyable relaxing spaces outside plus workout equipment. This teaches youth activities to substitute in place of substance use.
