About Bronx Tasc

Bronx TASC is part of the EAC Network, a leading human and social service organization that includes substance use recovery and mental health support. Bronx TASC offers an alternative to incarceration for judicial-involved individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Bronx TASC diverts eligible nonviolent offenders with substance use issues from the criminal justice system into treatment programs. They’re situated in the Grand Concourse neighborhood of the Bronx in New York.

Recovery in the Bronx

The facility is just half a mile south of the Yankee Stadium and a short walk from the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Joyce Kilmer Park is directly across the street, offering a bit of green space in an otherwise busy area. The location is well served by subway lines B, D and 4 trains, as well as several bus routes.

A Second Chance Through Treatment

Bronx TASC offers offenders a second chance to rebuild their lives through case management and comprehensive treatment that fosters lasting recovery. They maintain partnerships with the District Attorney's office, the defense bar and the Treatment Courts. This makes it easy to evaluate defendants suitable for a diversion program.

Any defendant identified by the court as having substance use disorder undergoes a detailed diagnostic assessment to determine the need for treatment. The TASC case manager crafts a personalized treatment plan based on the assessed needs and works on treatment placement. As the client navigates recovery, the case manager monitors and supervises them for compliance. Treatment progress is communicated to the court.

Prior to placement, the client must take a conditional plea to delay their sentence until they’ve successfully completed the treatment plan according to the court ruling. Graduated sanctions are used for clients who don’t follow their treatment plan or violate the conditions of their plea.

Bronx TASC serves as a neutral bridge between the court and community based treatment providers. Thanks to partnerships with a network of addiction treatment providers, they can accommodate each client, such as being placed in treatment facilities near your home or job.

A domestic violent client seeking trauma-informed treatment is matched with providers that offer such care. The same applies to a deaf client who may seek culturally responsive care. This helps the clients receive the most appropriate and effective care tailored to their specific needs in a supportive setting. Case managers ensure clients remain engaged with treatment using evidence based practices like motivational interviewing and trauma informed case management.
