Gavin Foundation Hamilton House is a 22-bed recovery home for adult men at the early stage of substance use treatment in Dorchester, Massachusetts. This program is more suitable if you have just completed high-intensity care and need additional support before rejoining the community. They’re one among several recovery programs provided by the Gavin Foundation. The main aim of Hamilton Home is to restore dignity, self confidence and personal responsibility among men affected by substance use issues.
Recovery In Dorchester
Dorchester is a diverse neighborhood in Boston with a mix of local businesses, nearby parks and community centers. What stands out to me is that it has a strong sense of community and is well connected to the rest of Boston. The facility is surrounded by Savin Hill Park, Pope John Paul II Park and Franklin Park. These green spaces make the whole area calm and peaceful for residential recovery. Residents can quickly access Quincy and downtown Boston via the I-93 corridor. The area is well served by MBTA Bus Routes 15, 17 and 18. This makes it easy to navigate. MBTA Red Line’s Fields Corner Station is less than a mile away. This provides direct transit to South Station and Cambridge.
Recovery Rooted in the 12 Steps
Hamilton House offers a structured, supportive and homely environment where residents can develop independent skills for a drug or alcohol free lifestyle. You’ll attend group and individual substance use counseling to address underlying personal issues, build coping mechanisms and prevent relapse. The program equips you with valuable life skills and tools to identify triggers and prevent relapse.
The program is particularly grounded in the 12 Step practices. Residents are expected to participate in a structured and intense 21-week study and application of the 12 Steps via the Alcoholics Anonymous Way of Life or AAWOL self-help group. This is important in building a strong support network. The facility maintains solid connections with community health providers, social service agencies and community-based self help groups to ensure residents benefit from a robust support network.
The program lasts for six months. The staff may help you with searching for safe accommodation and a stable job as you move forward in recovery. They may also help with medical care, legal aid, pastoral care and mental health support via referrals. I think it’s great that eligible graduates may live in the center for another four months to continue their prescribed course of therapy determined by their tailored care plan.
The program also includes comprehensive ongoing support to facilitate a smooth transition to independent living. These supports include continuation of the self help group and relapse prevention classes. You’ll also benefit from their active alumni network as you navigate life after the program.
