About Bonnie Brae School
Located in Liberty Corner, New Jersey, Bonnie Brae empowers youth and families through comprehensive care and support resources. They offer residential treatment, clinical services like mental health and substance abuse treatment, and specialized education. They also have intensive in-community services, transitional living and vocational training. Basic medical care like psychiatric medication management and dental exams are provided on site.
Situated on 100 acres of land, the residential treatment program treats young people aged 12 through 21. Residents are generally struggling with behavioral issues, addiction or mental health challenges. This program serves between 90 and 114 boys at a time. While living onsite, boys stay in cottages, attend daily peer groups, engage in outdoor activities and share chores.
Bonnie Brae uses a strengths based approach with individual, group and family therapy sessions. The goal of treatment is to help kids replace destructive behaviors with new positive skills. Kids will also attend educational sessions, play sports and do art. Specialized education is provided in small classes to meet every individual’s unique needs. They’ll have the opportunity to learn job skills in cooking, audio visual technology, art, carpentry and landscaping. While on site they’ll have access to medical treatments like eye exams, HIV testing and flu vaccines.
Transitional living homes are available off campus in the community for treatment graduates who want to maintain their lives within a recovery environment. They are able to stay in these living situations for up to a year and practice all of the skills they’ve learned. This trajectory ensures relapse prevention and independent living for the future.
