About Bayshore Retreat
Bayshore Retreat was an addiction treatment facility located in Florida's emerald coastal town, Destin. This was a six person drug and alcohol treatment center that offered a holistic approach to recovery, helping you build the skills for health, wellness, and sobriety. Unfortunately, this retreat has closed.
When they were open, this was an intentional, intimate, and supportive place to receive care. The retreat operated out of a beautiful residential home in the charming town known for its seasonal celebrity locals, such as country singer Kane and pop star Britney Spears.
Their approach to care here stood out to me because punishment, shame, and negative feelings towards recovery were not elements that you would’ve found through their recovery approach at all. Instead, you felt inspired to enter this next chapter in life and were encouraged to reflect on your past struggles and use that experience to fuel your progress for the future.
Some of the ways you would have felt this punishment-free approach to care was how they allowed you to bring along your cell phone and laptop to stay connected with friends, family, and work obligations. You were also treated to comfort and therapeutic amenities including sauna therapy, chef prepared meals, and even deep tissue massages.
You were encouraged to focus on yourself at full force, including indulging in activities that might have felt like a treat, an aspect that I feel is often neglected with traditional recovery facilities.
Their beautiful outdoor pool, outdoor spaces, and luxury interior also provided you with a sense of peace and comfort, something you would find at a resort or retreat, hence the organization's name.
They of course took a recovery focused approach to care, and you wouldn't have engaged in counseling sessions and therapies to help you tackle your addiction struggles. I also appreciated that there were daily group sessions through their Life Skills program. Here, different professionals came in to speak on the varying topics of addiction, helping you gain critical skills to apply in your life.
Even though they’re closed, there are nearby facilities that can assist you.
