About Atlanta Center for Mental Health
Riverdale, Georgia, is a suburb of Atlanta that was used as a filming location for one of the Hunger Games movies as well as for Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Preys.” It’s the second largest city in Clayton County and where you’ll find the Atlanta Center for Mental Health. The Center offers residential treatment for mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.
The Atlanta Center accepts multiple private insurance plans, such as Humana, Cigna and Aetna. They may also take Medicaid and Medicare. You can contact them directly to ensure your coverage applies.
Residential Services for Mental Health and Addiction
The Center provides 24/7 support and the facility isn’t “locked up.” I’m impressed that they coordinate crisis intervention, medication management and intensive therapy to give you the care you need to recover.
Services include evidence-based individual and group therapy using approaches like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). They also have experiential therapy through activities, art, and role playing to help you express emotions in different ways.
Holistic treatment includes a focus on mindfulness and well being. I like that you can access meditation, nutrition and fitness education to learn how to keep your mind and body healthy.
Specific Services for Dual Diagnosis Clients
Those with both mental health and substance use disorders need integrated care, and the Atlanta Center has specific support for these clients. In addition to the treatment above, they make recovery support groups available, such as 12 Step programs and others.
The program for all clients, and especially those with co-occurring disorders. By recognizing the interconnectedness of mental health and substance use, the Atlanta Center aims to provide you the best chance at long term recovery.
