About Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans

The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) is a community based organization in the energetic city of Houston, Texas, that offers substance use and mental health disorder treatment for Latinos. I noticed that you can get all their services in English and Spanish.

Catching Addiction Early To Minimize Risks in Southeast Texas

I find it helpful that they run an intervention and treatment program called Buena Salud for those in the early stages of substance use to prevent deeper involvement. You’ll have 20 quick sessions that help you understand what you’re opening yourself up to by continuing to use. Those who need more intense care are referred elsewhere.

Culturally Sensitive Recovery In Space City

They run a program called Project Tejas, that helps those in the community experiencing substance use and mental health disorders. They also offer virtual sessions for those who aren’t able to be at the meetings in person. I love that they provide counseling that is sensitive to your culture.

This means they’ll incorporate your cultural strengths into your treatment plans and use therapy approaches that align with your cultural values.
