About Army Substance Abuse Program ASAP

The Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) at Redstone Arsenal is a military-connected behavioral health resource for Soldiers in Huntsville, Alabama serving Soldiers, Army civilians, family members, retirees and other personnel eligible for Army services.

The program provides outpatient substance use treatment, prevention education and recovery support for adults and young adults navigating alcohol, drug, opioid, and co-occurring mental health concerns.

SAP's mission centers on readiness and resilience, blending prevention, early intervention and treatment to support the well-being of the Army community.

Substance Use Treatment for the Army Community

ASAP's core focus is outpatient care for substance use disorders, which I noted is paired with referral coordination and aftercare planning to support long-term recovery.

The program is embedded within Redstone Arsenal's support infrastructure, giving eligible personnel direct access to military-informed behavioral health services.

Treatment may incorporate approaches such as motivational interviewing, contingency management and relapse prevention counseling.

Sessions are designed to address both the behaviors driving substance use and the underlying stressors that fuel them, with relapse-prevention tools to sustain progress.

Prevention, Education, and Whole-Person Support

Beyond treatment, I appreciate that ASAP delivers prevention and education programming including substance abuse awareness, recognition and intervention training, stress management, conflict resolution, workplace violence prevention and suicide prevention.

A colocated Employee Assistance Program in the same building offers confidential support for broader life concerns such as anxiety, relationships, parenting and financial stress.

Payment Options

Payment Plans & Financing

For those who are underinsured or uninsured, paying the total cost of a rehab program up front is not feasible. Fortunately, many alcohol and drug rehabs make financing available to potential clients through private loans, in-house payment plans, or partner lenders. You can choose a finance package that lets you start treatment immediately and pay for it later.

Free Rehab

Most states offer free alcohol and drug rehabs through public mental health and addiction treatment centers. These centers often provide detox, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), residential treatment, partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), and support groups. You must meet certain requirements in order to qualify for free alcohol and drug rehabs, such as lack of income and insurance.
