About Anka Behavioral Health

The Anka Behavioral Health office on Gateway Boulevard in Concord, California, is currently closed. The organization used to provide outpatient and residential treatment for mental health and addiction. There were also vocational services and specialty programs for veterans.

The clinic was in operation for over 40 years and served 15,000 people per year. The programs were CARF Accredited.

Crisis Support and Treatment in a Residential Setting

Their residential treatment options included a short-term crisis support program as well as longer treatment for those who struggled to live independently. What stands out to me is that they could address both addiction and mental health concerns as well as co-occurring disorders.

They had transitional living arrangements available for those transitioning out of residential care who were looking to live more independently and perhaps attend outpatient treatment. They also provided a variety of programs including Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), care for the homeless and a specialty program tailored to the needs of veterans.

Services for the Justice Involved

One thing I noticed is that they had services for those involved in the criminal justice system. This included mental illness and addiction treatment in diversion programs as well as in the jail itself. The goal of the programs was to help clients avoid jail time as much as possible and help them avoid re-offense so they could become productive citizens of the community.
