About AMHC

Located not far from the Canadian border in suburban Presque Isle, Maine, is AMHC. They’re a behavioral care provider that offers outpatient substance abuse treatment. The organization has 60 years of experience providing behavioral healthcare services. They give all individuals access to care regardless of their ability to pay. Clients who don’t have insurance can pay through a sliding fee schedule based on family size and income available.

A unique service offered at this facility is the OPTIONS program, which is short for Overdose Prevention through Intensive Outreach, Naloxone & Safety. Liaisons help members of the community get connected to substance abuse treatment and recovery services. They also help you get access to naloxone, provide education on Maine’s Good Samaritan Law, and provide guidance on what services would be most helpful for you or your loved one.

The outpatient program provides you with individual and family counseling, intensive group counseling, and co-occurring mental health treatment counseling. In individual counseling, you’ll learn recovery strategies and develop your social support network. You can receive up to nine hours of group treatment, depending on your needs. Additional services that are available to you include medication for opioid use disorder, opioid health home, and the driver education and evaluation program. The opioid health homes service provides clients with care management, office based medication assisted treatment, and opioid dependency counseling.

Presque Isle is known for being home to the University of Maine. One of the town’s biggest attractions is the Aroostook State Park, which can be a great place to walk or relax after your treatment sessions. There’s also Mantle Lake Park, where you can hike or just clear your mind.

Two additional programs I like that AMHC offers are the employment assistance program and the student assistance program. Both programs provide you with confidential assessments, short term counseling and follow up services to help with personal or work/school related programs which may be contributing to your addiction.
