About Downtown Portland Comprehensive Treatment Center

Downtown Portland Comprehensive Treatment Center is an opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment program on Davis Street in Portland, Oregon. The center offers medication assisted treatment (MAT) for adults aged 18 and older. Many commercial insurance plans cover the treatment, as do state and publicly funded plans. They also take Medicare and Medicaid. You can also self pay.

Their MAT program uses different medications depending on your situation. The medications they use at this clinic include methadone, Suboxone, buprenorphine, and Vivitrol. The medications are all evidence based and FDA approved, and they help your body slowly withdraw from opioids while allowing you to continue with your normal daily activities. You won’t feel high, and you’ll have the mental clarity to participate in therapy and counseling.

Because these medications wean you off of opioids, you’ll be reducing your risk of harmful diseases such as hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV/AIDS that opioid users often contract. You’ll increase your life expectancy, improve the likelihood of obtaining and maintaining employment, and improve your family’s stability.

In the MAT program, the treatment team takes a holistic approach. Medication alone can’t end your addiction because there are also emotional and mental aspects to your substance use. The main therapies used in this program are dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT helps you focus on how your thoughts and actions are connected and how you can improve the quality of your thought patterns to be more positive. You’ll work on changing negative beliefs and attitudes that may contribute to your substance use.

Dialectical behavior therapy helps with emotional regulation while improving your mindfulness, stress tolerance and interpersonal communication. You’ll accept and understand why you need to make significant changes in your life.

You’ll engage in individual and group counseling to help you gain insight into the underlying causes of your addiction. You’ll work to build more effective coping skills while managing your negative emotions so you won’t feel the need to turn to substances to relieve your uncomfortable feelings.
