About Aletheia House

Aletheia House is a nonprofit substance abuse treatment organization in Birmingham, Alabama. They are part of a network with services for people of all ages. The Birmingham location offers general outpatient (OP) services. They also have specialized support for veterans, including job support. This is a community based program that takes the ever changing needs of those they serve in mind.

Alethia House recognizes that substance use disorder can impact people of all backgrounds, so they keep their costs low to ensure their services are accessible to all. They also provide some job training and health screening services.

Outpatient treatment is considered a low level of care because of its intensity. It often includes a few short sessions each week and allows for scheduling flexibility. That isn't to say that the quality of care you'll receive at this level is any less than residential or intensive options. It's simply less restrictive because it's designed for those with mild symptoms in mind.

Typical outpatient programs pair you with a personal therapist or counselor. They'll provide you with a safe space to explore your addiction and its root causes while helping you develop new life and coping skills. This can happen in individual and/or group settings with peer support. It's ultimately about teaching you new behaviors that embrace sobriety.

I think Aletheia House is special because it has a number of support programs for veterans. Sadly, it's not uncommon for veterans to experience difficulties in finding help for work, housing, or health care. Aletheia House has multiple options for vets and is always looking to grow them.
