UnityPoint Health was established in 1993 to assist individuals within Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout the years they have expanded by adding several community centers and hospitals throughout the states of Iowa, Wisconsin and llinois.

Cedar Rapids is a great place to begin your recovery journey, with lots to see and do outside of treatment. Activities like flea markets, wildlife parks, a zoo, historic sites, theaters, libraries, luxury spas and churches offer lots of opportunities for sober connection and recreation.

What’s so beneficial about receiving outpatient treatment is the flexibility you have with your day-to-day responsibilities while also being able to prioritize your healing. You will develop an individualized treatment plan with a therapist and they can assist with medication management, comprehensive assessment and recovery support services.

A few of the many forms of therapy they incorporate in their treatment programs are dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

What sticks out to me the most is the variety of services they offer for adolescents and children. Dealing with chemical dependency, mental health conditions, and/or behavioral disorders as a youth can be challenging to deal with. Trying to find the right words to describe what they’re going through or the feelings your child is dealing with can be stressful.
Here, they provide school-based services, trauma-focused care and various forms of therapy. Their play and expressive art therapy give children a chance to express themselves creatively and find healthier forms to cope with and manage emotions.
The Senior Outreach Counseling program is catered to individuals over the age of 60. Their approach is to break any barriers that can prevent them from getting the care they or a loved one needs. What I like most is being able to receive care in the comfort and privacy of your own home. This will also include accessibility to meal sites, senior centers, and consultations. This is a great way for you to engage with your peers and engage in activities.
