WestCare GulfCoast Davis Bradley Community Involvement is located on the Gulf Coast of St. Petersburg, Florida. The organization has been accredited by The Joint Commission and CARF. They provide residential substance use treatment for individuals who are involved in the criminal justice system. Their mission is to provide comprehensive and innovative services for adults.

Men and women are housed separately in their residential program. The length of the program varies from eight to 18 months. Length of stay depends on your court order, the severity of your addiction and meeting your treatment goals.

I like that during the orientation period of treatment, you will be able to become stabilized to your environment. They will provide you with an orientation of the program itself, as well as the addiction and recovery process. I also like that they will teach you the 10 basic functions of the therapeutic community philosophy. They do this in various ways such as through learning, practicing and being challenged on each skill.

By allowing yourself to become fully engaged in the program, you’ll be able to receive constructive insight and make changes in behavior. I like that they provide an emphasis on accepting the decision to not use substances. There is also strong emphasis placed on developing your plan for relapse prevention.

Before graduating your program, you will be required to secure and maintain a full time job during the day. You’ll be able to participate in your group sessions and activities before and after work. During your group sessions topics will be discussed pertaining to issues on abstinence, prevocational readiness, life skills and criminal thinking.

If needed, medication assisted treatment (MAT) will be provided. The medications will help you focus on your recovery by reducing your substance cravings and easing your withdrawal symptoms. The medications are FDA approved.
