About Green Road Community Outpatient Clinic

The Green Road Community Outpatient Clinic is part of the VA Health System. They provide a variety of outpatient medical care, mental health treatment, and substance use counseling. They can also refer you to more intensive care within the VA or through Community Care providers.

Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling for Veterans

All VA locations have crisis support and counseling for mental health and substance use. I like that they provide outpatient care at Green Road, and they can connect you to additional services at other locations for acute conditions.

Their counseling services use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). You can get individual and group counseling.

What’s unique about getting therapy at the VA is their focus on the experience of veterans. I think that people who experience everything from boot camp to frequent reassignments to overseas deployments have challenges that many civilians can’t understand. Wartime experiences and other trauma can cause PTSD, and it can be hard to open up to a therapist who hasn’t been through similar experiences.
