About Urban Renewal Corp.

Sometimes, the first step toward rebuilding a life is knowing someone believes you’re worth it. Urban Renewal Corp (URC) is a refuge for those who’ve been overlooked and stripped of dignity by the harsh realities of homelessness. URC is headquartered south of Essex–Hudson Greenway and west of Kearny Public Library in the industrial district of South Kearny, New Jersey

They restore hope and healing to adults struggling with substance dependence, mental health challenges and those living with HIV. Think of them as a one-stop shop for a diverse range of human and social services.

They’ve been serving residents of these counties for over 30 years. They even extend services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system, including those incarcerated or on parole. They maintain strong partnerships with several community agencies to ensure a broad network of support services for those in need.

Building Strong Foundations for Lasting Change

At its core, URC offers homeless case management. They address over 500 emergency and transitional beds and serve 3000+ individuals annually. Besides unemployment and financial hardship, homelessness is often driven by substance dependence and mental health challenges.

The agency provides whole-person care that addresses these challenges, empowering individuals to regain control of their lives. Services include vocational training, financial empowerment education and mentorship to equip you with the tools necessary to achieve long-term independence and personal growth.

They also offer rapid HIV testing alongside referral support to community-based mental health and substance use treatment providers as well as medical care and legal assistance services. Their broader case management services include job placement assistance and help with food and other basic necessities. Some staff have lived experience with homelessness, ensuring empathy and genuine understanding in every interaction with clients.
