About University Psychiatric Associates
The now closed University Psychiatric Associates was a provider of behavioral health and addiction care services. These programs were designed for adult clients.
Programs were available across multiple levels of care. Counseling was available in intensive and general outpatient settings. Ambulatory detox was another treatment option. They also specialized in medication assisted treatment (MAT) using Suboxone.
I think what made this place special was its multidisciplinary approach that brought together professionals from different practices in the field. It allowed for highly individualized care. While the University Psychiatric Association is now closed, you can find similar services nearby.
Empowering You Through the 12 Steps
This facility used the 12 Steps model of recovery, combining its structures and philosophy with traditional talk therapy. This model approaches addiction from physical, mental and spiritual perspectives.
The 12 Steps itself incorporates abstinence into recovery. This means the complete avoidance of substance use. While not the only path to recovery, you may want to consider it if you've been through treatment previously and relapsed. The community support and structured regimen may help you stay on the path to recovery.
Analyzing the Whole You
Something that I look for in recovery programs is how they view addiction. University Psychiatric Associates looked not just at your core diagnosis but any behavioral issues related to it. It's part of what's called a whole person approach.
When you explore and better understand how addiction impacts your behavior, you'll start to see connections between it and other problems you may not have even recognized. Things like self harm, eating disorders and anxiety can be worsened by addiction. What's more, they can also exacerbate the addiction itself. A whole person view seeks to address these concerns and lower the possibility of relapse.
A Safe Approach to Medication Assisted Treatment
It's understandable that you may be cautious about treating addiction with medication. But I think medication management services like the ones offered at this location are a great option to ease your mind and find effective help. Medication management closely monitors the medications you are taking. Your care team can see your reaction to medications and make changes as needed.
Typically this treatment is incorporated into your overall treatment schedule. For example, if you're seen on a weekly basis your care team can make assessments every week. If you are anxious about medication, look for this service when considering facilities.
